Props or No Props??

Have you ever thought about adding props to your photo sessions? Props can add interest, depth and an extra flair to your pictures. A picnic blanket can bring together the perfect picnic look. Get your children to hold coordinating flowers for a spring or summer shoot. Here are a few tips for ways to incorporate props in your next photo session.

Make It Meaningful.

If you have a family heirloom or if you have a musical instrument that you treasure, try and incorporate it into your photos. This way your pictures will have more meaning to you and your family. In the photo here, one of our couples incorporated their ultrasound in addition to their maternity pictures. This is a wonderful example of a meaningful prop that made the perfect addition to their maternity session!

Size Matters.

Sometimes, using larger props will work really well in your photo sessions. Don’t be afraid to think big, like using your grandpa’s farm tractor as a background piece. Or maybe even an airplane that’s in your family’s hangar.

Think Green.

I encourage to bring props that are sustainable, recyclable & reusable. Flowers, cupcakes, accessories, etc can be used for amazing props without littering and harming the environment we are using.

Use What You Have.

Make the current season of your family work to your advantage by using what you have available. A favorite toy makes for amazing props in photos and don’t cost a thing!

Less is More.

It’s easy to go wild when thinking of a theme for your photo session. You don't need to bring so much that you start stressing where everything is during your shoot. Sometimes one or two props will stand out and complete the look all together. There are so many fun options out there to choose from!
